“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception”
-Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Seven states in the country account for 87.5% of the farming sector suicides.
They are Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
Nearly 600 farmers in Maharashtra’s Marathwada region died by suicide between January 1, 2022, and mid-August, according to official figures.
These Suicides have made an adverse effect on the family members who are dependent on them including loss of income, asset depletion, and deterioration of human capital among others.
So, to overcome the stress and burden of these incumbent dependents we at Elite E² have introduced the Endurance society.
Which includes the Widows of farmers to introduce SHGs ( Self-Help Groups) to gain control over their lives and resources.
To overcome external barriers (lack of education, status in the family, health and awareness, mobility, participation in decision making) and gain internal qualities such as self-awareness and self-confidence.
These Widows can produce a range number of products like agarbattis, cotton knitted hankies, candles paper mesh toys, bathroom mats, scented candles, wooden furniture, door mats, towels, wood carvings, toys, etc, and sell these products in the Workshops that will be conducted by Elite E².
These changes will bring Women Empowerment, have a sense of Livelihood, include them in financial Inclusion & lastly create awareness of these groups.
